December 28, 1912, in Kansas, was possibly named after his grandfather, “George Mhlanga,” from African tradition when the parents were unable to remember a name. George Mhlanga (actually pronounced as Mahlangu) is Zulu & Xhosa for agriculture or corn farmer in everyday life.
Maulana Ron Karenga created Kwanzaa out of the desire to build cultural pride in black Americans and combat racism against them; he wanted to do this by educating African Americans about their history and culture been ignored due to slavery December Holiday Season. Another story says that when this Italian saint had traveled to Africa during her young years to spread Christianity among nomads before the middle ages, one overconfident hunter shot a tame deer without actually killing it, which eventually turned on him. After returning to Syracuse, she refused the request of Juliana, her pagan cousin, to convert to their religion. Instead, Lucia went into hiding, and Juliana became angry and plotted against her.
She reported Lucia’s whereabouts to Roman officials that then tortured and killed her in 304 A.D In Europe, Santa Lucia is also a saint who helps people with eye problems which explains why Scandinavian children are told they can see Santa Claus if they have been good all year long. 10. Winter Solstice or Yule (Dec 21th – January 1st):
December 21 is Winter Solstice (also referred to as Yule), it is one of the oldest Christmas traditions & beliefs that has been traced back December to the Stone Age. It’s a day when Sun God starts regaining its powers that it loses to the darkness for six months of the year and becomes more powerful.
The Solstices are considered symbolic entry points into the cosmic cycle & since ancient times, January 1 has been associated with rebirth, creation, recreation, and renewal December Holiday Season.
